Reduced fat and salt content
The fat-modified, low fat food product range contains several products from different fat sources. The best known dietary invention in this field is the cholesterol-reducing ingredient sitostanol, better known as Benecol, which was first mixed into rapeseed margarine and later in yogurts, milk drinks, etc.
Finns have also developed other cholesterol-reducing products, such as cheese, oat flakes and even pasta. The effect of cholesterol-reducing foodstuffs is usually based on vegetable ethanols or sterols, or rapeseed oil and beta-glucans from oats.
