Benchmarking projects

Projects are common methods to improve national health. At this point there are several health-promoting projects.

Finnish health-promoting projects have achieved international awareness, such as a project to prevent cardiovascular disease in North Karelia in the 1970s and the Development Program for the Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes (DEHKO 2000-2010), which is the first national programme in the world to include and implement the prevention of type 2 diabetes.

A typical feature of successful projects has been the fact that companies, research facilities and authorities have jointly worked to implement projects.
