Geriatric nutrition
An aging population in the coming decades has put a global burden on the social and health sector. More studies are needed on geriatric nutrition in order to secure better care and cut costs. In Finland there is wide research on geriatric nutrition and development of products for the elderly. Finns aim to develop products for the elderly that are tasty, but at the same time have a higher energy and nutrient content.
Finnish companies offer also a broad selection of functional foods for seniors, such as products to help control elevated blood pressure, treatment of constipation or for normalising cholesterol.
Still more studies are needed on geriatric nutrition in order to secure better care and cut costs. The Kuopio Research Centre of Geriatric Care, together with the food industry, is developing innovative products and nutritional services, as well as drugs, health services and technology for the elderly.
